VOLCANIC ASH

Friday 23rd April 2010

It is hard to believe I am writing about the consequences of volcanic ash and the availability of flowers, but there we are.  The disruption caused to the airlines this week due the eruption of the volcano in Iceland and the subsequent plume of ash into the atmosphere has meant an immediate halt to the import of flowers from Columbia, Kenya and South America.  The good news is that the wholesalers report availability of flowers has not been badly affected except for carnations from Columbia and roses from Kenya.  The papers reported vast quantities of flowers had to be destroyed in Kenya due the ban on air traffic, but luckily the transporter lorries from Holland were still able to continue their import routes to England as usual by ferry.

The only consequence to the buyer has been an increase in certain flower prices.

It is a comfort to realise that with the growing and flowering season beginning at home whatever the immediate future brings we should have seasonal and home-grown flowers available if all else fails.  A good florist always knows how to improvise!

WELCOME TO FLEUR MY 2CV VAN

Saturday 17th April 2010

I would like to introduce you to an exciting addition to my team.  She is called Fleur and takes the shape of a rather tired, rusty white van.  Look out for us in the local area and watch the transformation from shabby, chic to retro, glam.

Fleur will be a great help for my wedding work and deliveries locally and add a 'je ne sais pas quoi' to my daily routine. The van is left-hand drive and circa 1979, but very enjoyable to drive especially now the sun is shining.

I will keep you up-to-date with her transformation.
